The .CONNECT Solution
From start to finish, the .CONNECT 36 Mbps small business wireless solution is implemented in four well-defined steps:
- Step 1 - Phone Interview
.CONNECT will determine the feasibility of setting up a wireless area network at your chosen site. This interview will include determining the effects of the following:
- Line of sight - are there any obstructions and, if so, can they be avoided?
- Path Distance - is the distance between sites within reason for wireless transmission?
- Climate - because precipitation and temperature can affect wireless transmission, they need to be taken into account so their effects can be eliminated.
- Interference - because of the nature of radio transmissions, interference from other local sources is possible and must be tested for.
- Geography - radio waves can be absorbed or reflected by the local geography, possibly affecting your wireless network, therefore a topological survey must be taken.
- Step 2 - Design
There are many complex factors and variables that must be taken into account when designing a wireless area network. The best wireless hardware would be useless without an appropriate and properly designed system, therefore this is by far the most critical step of the .CONNECT wireless solution. .CONNECT will design all aspects of your wireless area network using the information gathered from the site survey, as well as your unique and specific requirements. The design will include the following:
- Determining radio equipment, power and wiring requirements.
- Determining signal wiring to WAN termination port and verifying interface details.
- Selecting frequencies, antennas, transmission lines and equipment configuration.
- Keeping the minimum fade margins at the appropriate levels by calculating how certain factors will affect them.
- Deciding how to complement the existing network.
- Step 3 - Logistics/Procurement
Based on the specific design in Step 2, .CONNECT will purchase and deliver every piece of equipment needed for the wireless area network installation. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
